Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah, is an American rapper actress and singer. in film, music and television, Queen Latifah has won the award of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award and six additional Grammy nominations, and nods to the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was born and raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita teacher who taught in Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Sr. an officer in the police force. Latifah's parents divorced after Latifah, then ten years was ten years old. Latifah attended a Catholic school and received her education at Newark New Jersey. She attended the Baptist church. In her early twenties when her mother gave her stage names Latifah which translates to delicate and kind in Arabic. Latifah has always been large, at 5'10" and was the center forward on her high school basketball team. She sang "Home" from The Wiz in a performance at her highschool. Latifah began beatboxing with the fresh rap ladies. Latifah is among the first participants of Flavor Unit, which was at the time a group made up of DJ Mark the45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the 45King) recorded a demo for Queen Latifah rapper Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps who is known as Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was signed by Latifah following her hearing of the song. Her first single, Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
